Note Categories#

Note categories allow you to create sub-sets of notes and logically group them together making them easier to find and reason about.

Tip

Notes also form the foundation for other functionality, for example the contact record functionality within Behaviour builds upon this allowing a record of contact home to be kept and visible on the student’s record.


Managing Categories#

To add a new category select the Note Categories option from the Configuration List section of the side bar. Once open you’ll be shown the current list of note categories and their information including:

  • Name

    • The name of the category.

  • Description

    • The description entered about the category.

  • Is Sub Category Selection Required

    • This determines whether or not the category can be applied to a note without a sub category. (This helps in situations where a category isn’t enough to distinguish between the items being recorded and you also need the user to select a sub category for the grouping to make sense)

Editing a Category#

You can edit the information of the category by clicking on the corresponding cell within the table and updating the information. Once complete click out of the cell for the information to be saved. A green popup message will confirm that this was successfully saved.

Tip

Some categories are controlled by the system and can’t be updated by the school. These are present to enable other pieces of functionality.

Deleting a Category#

You can delete a category by selecting the corresponding checkbox and clicking the delete button on the tables action bar. You’ll be asked to confirm your choice before the category is deleted. Once deleted a green popup message will confirm that the action was successful.

Adding a New Category#

To add a new category click the add button on the tables action bar. This will open the new category screen.

Once you’ve entered all of the required fields, click the create button. You’ll be taken back to the note categories list and will see a green popup message confirming the action was successful.


Managing Sub Categories#

To manage the sub categories for the category, select the corresponding checkbox and click the edit button on the tables action bar (or double click the row). This will open the sub categories screen for that category. The sub categories will be listed with their information including:

  • Name

    • The name of the sub category.

  • Description

    • The description of the sub category.

Adding a Sub Category#

To add a new sub category, click the add button from the tables action bar. This will open the new category form. Enter the name and optionally the description and click the save button to add a new sub category. Once added you’ll be taken back to the sub categories list and a green popup message will be shown confirming the sub category was added successfully.

Editing the Sub Category#

To edit a sub category, select the corresponding checkbox and click the edit button on the tables action bar (or double click the row). Once selected you’ll be able to edit the sub categories information and click the save button. Once saved you’ll be taken back to the sub categories list and see a green popup message confirming it was saved.

Deleting a Sub Category#

To delete a sub category select the corresponding checkbox and click the delete button on the tables action bar. You’ll be asked to confirm your choice before the item is deleted. Once deleted the item will be removed from the table and a green popup will be shown to indicate the deletion was successful.
