Student Homework#

Tip

This document is targeted directly towards students.

You can be set homework tasks by your teachers. These tasks will be available for you to see immediately after your teacher publishes the homework. You can see the homework tasks you’ve got to complete by clicking the homework block on your dashboard (or clicking the my homework option in the side bar).

This will load your classes and display a summary of all the details of your homework tasks for each class. You’ll be able to see the following information:

  • Class Name - The name of the class group.

  • Subject - The subject taught in the class.

  • Teachers - Details of any teachers that have set homework for that class.

  • Tasks - This shows the number of outstanding homework tasks, these are the ones that you’ve yet to submit work for.

  • Due Soon - This shows the number of outstanding tasks that are due within the next 24 hours. (If a class group contains a task that’s due soon you’ll see an amber bar under the header and an icon in the top right of the block)

  • Overdue - This shows the number of outstanding tasks that are overdue but the teacher is still accepting late submissions. (If a class group contains a task that’s overdue you’ll see a red bar under the header and an icon in the top right of the block)

You can view the tasks within a class group by clicking the tasks option in the corresponding block. This will open a details view for all homework tasks for that class. Each task is displayed as a block including a number of pieces of information you might find useful:

  • Due - The date and time by which you must submit your homework task.

  • Grade - The grade the teacher has given the task once marked (not all tasks will be graded).

  • Status - The status of the homework task.

  • Submission - The type of submission the teacher is accepting for this task.

  • Teacher - The name of the teacher that set the task.

  • Title - The title of the homework task, as set by your teacher.

Tip

If the homework task is due within the next 24 hours you’ll see an amber bar at under the tasks header and an icon in the top right.

Tip

If the homework task is overdue, but the teacher is accepting late submissions, you’ll see a red bar under the task header and an icon in the top right.

Tip

If the homework task is complete you’ll see a green bar under the task header.

There are a number of options to help you find the task you’re looking for within that class, typing in a part of the title in the search bar will show matching homework tasks below. Clicking on one of the “Show” options will filter the list of tasks to the selected option:

  • All - This will show all homework tasks you’ve been assigned for the class for the current academic year.

  • Due Soon - This will show any homework task that’s due within the next 24 hours.

  • Overdue - This will show any homework task that’s overdue.

  • Graded - This will show any homework task that’s been graded by your teacher.

  • Pending Grading - This will show any homework task that you’ve submitted but your teacher hasn’t marked yet.

  • Un-submitted - This will show any homework task that you haven’t submitted yet.

Tip

You’ll automatically be shown only the tasks that you haven’t submitted yet.

To view the details of a particular task, click the corresponding edit button. Once opened you’ll be able to see the details of the task including:

  • Attachments - Any attached documents that the teacher has provided to help you with the task.

  • Deadline Date - The date and time by which the homework task must be submitted.

  • Detail - The detail of the task including an explanation of what you need to do.

  • Submission Type - The type of submission being accepted by the teacher for this task.

  • Teacher - The teacher that assigned the task.

  • Title - The title of the task.

Submitting Your work#

Electronically#

If your teacher wants you to submit this task electronically you’ll see the submissions panel. You should ensure that you submit your completed work by the deadline date.

There are 2 formats available for your teachers to select:

  • File

  • Online

File#

If your teacher selected a submission format of file, you’ll see the following.

To submit your work simply drag and drop the file onto the submissions area (or click the area to pick the file). You’ll be shown a green popup message if the work is uploaded successfully and you’ll be able to see the file you’ve uploaded.

Tip

Don’t forget to click the submit button to submit your work to your teacher.

If your teacher is accepting late submissions you’ll be allowed to submit your work after the deadline date (but only for a short time). You’re submission will be marked as late so that the teacher knows you missed the deadline.

If your teacher isn’t accepting late submissions or the time window for accepting late submissions passes you’ll see a message showing you that you didn’t submit any work for this task.

Tip

Make sure the work you submit is correct, you can’t change the file after you submit it.

Important

The system automatically removes your homework files after a given period. This means that they won’t be stored within forever, you should ensure you that you save a copy of your homework files somewhere in case you want to review them at a later date and they are no longer available.

Online#

If your teacher selected a submission format of online, you’ll see the following.

To construct your submission you just enter the contents of your submission in the homework editor. You can use the controls to format your submission, once complete don’t forget to submit your work to the teacher.

If your teacher is accepting late submissions you’ll be allowed to submit your work after the deadline date (but only for a short time). You’re submission will be marked as late so that the teacher knows you missed the deadline.

If your teacher isn’t accepting late submissions or the time window for accepting late submissions passes you’ll see a message showing you that you didn’t submit any work for this task.

Tip

In Class#

If your teacher wants you to submit your work in class you should submit your work to the teacher in your lesson with them on the date shown. Your teacher will record who has submitted their work and who hasn’t. If you’re teacher is grading the homework task you’ll be able to see a grade for the work when the teacher uploads it.

Viewing Your Grade#

Once you’ve submitted your work your teacher will be told and, if your teacher is grading the work, you’ll be able to see your grade in the grade panel.
